Handloom Cotton & Linen Magyar Tops, Cut for Easy Movement
Indirookh's magyar sleeve tops for women are cut as one piece with the bodice, with no shoulder seam at the top of the arm. The fabric falls from the neckline straight down the arm in one clean line, giving you full movement without the pinch of a fitted armhole. Each top is made in Jaipur from pure handloom cotton or pure linen, hand block printed in Bagru and Sanganeri styles using natural vegetable and azo-free safe dyes.
For women who have ever felt a tight armhole digging in, or a shoulder seam that pulls when you raise your arm, the magyar cut solves both problems. There is no seam to chafe and no fixed armhole to restrict movement. You can stretch, type all day, ride a scooter, or chase a toddler and the top moves with you instead of fighting back.
The range covers everyday cotton magyar tops, lightweight cotton voile versions for the hottest months, and pure linen magyar tops for travel and layering. For a complete handloom look, layer over our wide leg pants for office, pair with culottes for casual wear, or slip a cotton waistcoat over the top for cooler evenings. For weekend dressing, the magyar top works beautifully with our white linen pants and flat juttis.
Available in solid colours like off-white, indigo, mustard, deep maroon, and soft rust, and in our signature Bagru and Sanganeri hand block prints. Cut for true-to-size fit across XS to XXL, with custom sizing on request.

How to style a magyar sleeve top
For everyday office wear, tuck a plain cotton magyar top into wide leg trousers with a thin handloom dupatta over one shoulder. For weekend brunch, pair a sanganeri printed magyar top with white linen pants and slip-on juttis. For travel, the magyar tops in cotton voile fold flat in a suitcase, come out without sharp creases, and dry in a few hours.
For layered winter dressing in Delhi or the hills, slip a magyar top under a quilted cotton jacket or a sleeveless waistcoat. For summer holidays in Goa or Pondicherry, the cotton voile magyar tops are light enough to wear straight from the beach to lunch.
Why handloom cotton works for the magyar cut
Handloom cotton has a slightly uneven weave compared to powerloom cotton, with small variations in yarn thickness across the surface. When cut into a magyar sleeve, the fabric drapes with weight in some places and lightness in others, giving the sleeve its characteristic soft fall. Machine-made cotton falls flat and stiff in the same cut.
Breathability matters even more in this style. Because there is no separate armhole, the only ventilation comes from the fabric itself. Polyester and rayon trap heat and sweat, which makes the loose fit feel sticky rather than airy. Pure cotton and linen release heat and moisture into the air, which is why our customers wear these tops through Delhi summers and Chennai humidity.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a magyar sleeve?
A magyar sleeve is cut as one piece with the bodice, with no shoulder seam at the top of the arm. The sleeve falls naturally from the neckline, creating a soft drape and full arm movement. It is sometimes called a kimono sleeve, though the magyar version sits closer to the body and has a shorter underarm seam.
Are magyar sleeve tops good for Indian summers?
Yes. The loose cut allows air to flow under the arms, and our pure cotton and linen fabrics breathe well in heat above 40 degrees. For more summer ready styles, browse our summer dress collection.
How is a magyar top different from a regular kurti?
A regular kurti has a separate sleeve stitched into a fixed armhole at the shoulder. A magyar top has no shoulder seam, so the sleeve and the body are one continuous piece. The result is a softer drape, more arm movement, and no chafing under the arm.
Will the colours run or fade?
No. We use colour-fast vegetable dyes and azo-free safe dyes. A cold wash for the first three washes is recommended as a precaution, the same way you would with any natural dye fabric.
How do I wash a magyar sleeve top?
Hand wash or machine wash on a gentle cycle in cold water for the first three washes. Use a mild detergent. Dry in shade. Iron on medium heat from the reverse side to protect the print. The fabric softens with every wash.
What sizes do you offer?
XS to XXL as standard. Custom sizing is available on request at no extra cost. Write to us at support@indirookh.com with your bust, waist, and length measurements.
